Hesed House
Hesed House is a local organization incorporated for the purpose of providing care and advocacy for the poor, hungry, and homeless; and is affiliated with P.A.D.S., as well as other human services programs.
Hesed, (hehs’-ed), Hebrew noun. God’s unconditional and everlasting love that seeks justice on behalf of the least of God’s people.
The members of Faith have been doing “hesed” for over a decade. We serve the First Tuesday of each month. You may help in any or all of the following ways:
If you are interested in helping to serve dinner please join our ministry team but contacting Judy Washburn at office@discoveringfaith.com or by calling (630) 862-3500. We serve from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
2. Literacy Program
Volunteers commit 1 ½ hours per week for ten week sessions to tutor guests who are struggling with English or attempting to get a GED High school equivalency degree. Training is provided for all volunteers. If interested, please contact Judy Washburn at office@discoveringfaith.com or by calling (630) 862-3500. You do not have to be a teacher in order to be an excellent literacy volunteer and this is an extremely rewarding way to help someone reach their goal of independence!
3. Volunteer your resources:
If you would like to provide pre-cut brownies or cookies, please leave them in the church kitchen by the Tuesday before our serving date. Clearly mark items “Hesed House.”
The guests at Hesed House are always in need of personal hygiene items including sample size shampoo, soap, and disposable razors. They also welcome used towels and twin size sheets or blankets.
They do not accept donations of clothing as they no longer have the space to store those items. Used clothing can be donated to Goodwill or Wayside Cross Ministries in Aurora.
We are blessed to receive a generous discount to purchase the majority of the food for our dinner from Sysco foods, so your financial support is greatly needed and appreciated. We currently serve 200 people a full dinner and a sack lunch for the following day for approx. $2.50 per person. All of your donations go directly to purchase food. If you would like to make a financial contribution, there are “Hesed House” envelopes at the welcome center or you can designate Hesed on your check and make the donation through the offering plate or church office. Your donations are tax deductible.
